Full mouth reconstruction refers to the process of completely restoring all of the teeth in your mouth. Full mouth reconstruction is unlike a “smile makeover”, which often only effects the front teeth. It is a necessary series of steps to address a greater deal of damage to teeth or to treat an underlying problem such as severe wear or significant functional problem.
You might ask why is this distinction important? Many people seeking correction of cosmetic concerns such as heavily worn or chipped front teeth have developed problems with their teeth that porcelain veneers or bonding alone cannot address. Often, what is perceived as a problem with the front teeth is in fact the visual effect of the break down or incorrect position of the back teeth.
The numerous things that influence how our teeth wear and age must be investigated and fully evaluated to be sure that we address all of the causes of a patients problems, and that we fully understand the benefits and, most importantly, the risks of addressing these problems. This is why we do a full evaluation of all patients requiring or requesting cosmetic dentistry to make sure that we have done everything we can to address the health, function and beauty of your teeth. Through this process we make sure we will have you looking your best for years to come.
Dr. Scherer has many hours of training in managing these complex types of dental problems. Here is a list to highlight some of this training.
- Graduate of an Advanced Education in General dentistry Residency (1 year intensive in-residence training) at the US Air Force Academy Dental Clinic 2004. This intensive training program involved one year of one-on-one training with specialists in endodontics, oral surgery, periodontics, orthodontics, complex restorative dentistry, and prosthodontics. This training was invaluable and greatly expanded my clinical skills and capabilities over the average dentist, and is the primary reason I am comfortable providing many treatments that other general dentists refer out.
- Member of the Seattle Study Club – The Seattle Study Club is a university without walls, where many of the greatest minds in dentistry are brought to our local study clubs for lectures and presentations.
- Graduate of the Misch International Implant Institute – The oldest, and most highly respected dental implant institute in the United States.
